Dear Parents and Guardians,

Jeremiah Caroline

CAROLINE JEREMIAH

DEPUTY PRINCIPAL, MORNINGTON YEAR 10-12 CAMPUS

We are now well into Term 2 with much happening on the Year 10-12 Campus. Year 12 students and those undertaking a Unit 3&4 subject were provided the opportunity to undertake a practice GAT this week in preparation for the actual VCAA General Assessment Test on Tuesday 18 June.

The coming week is a busy one that commences with a Year 12 excursion to attend a presentation by TRAG (Teenage Road Accident Group). This forms part of the three-year road safety program that Padua College offers, designed to raise awareness around the dangers of driving within the most vulnerable group in our community (15 – 25-year-olds). The TRAG presentation explores the impact of road trauma, safe driving practices, and decision-making, in order to reduce the number of young people killed or injured through road accidents each year.

On Tuesday 7 May, our senior students will participate in a ‘safe partying’ seminar delivered by Sonya Karras. With ten years of experience in the hospitality industry in some of Melbourne’s largest venues, the author and podcaster will educate our young people on how to safely navigate today’s party scene in her ‘Whole New World’ program.

Thursday 9 May will see our Student Representative Council students participate in a leadership workshop at our Tyabb Campus, and the highlight of the week for our senior students is the Year 12 Formal on Friday 10 May at Mornington Racecourse.

The return of SIS sport this week has seen a healthy response by students wishing to represent the College. It has been fantastic to see so many students take up this opportunity to experience a team sport with their friends.

We also wish to congratulate Mercy House on winning the senior cross-country carnival on Friday 19 April. John XXIII House took second place followed by Bernard House in third. Well done to all who participated and to those who achieved personal bests and were selected to compete in the SIS cross country competition, which takes place Tuesday 21 May.

Good luck to our VCE Theatre Studies students who will be performing Picnic at Hanging Rock on Wednesday 15 May and Thursday 16 May. The students will be
taking on all areas of production, from direction through to acting and design roles, to perform a play as part of their curriculum assessment.

The play is based on the well-known novel by Joan Lindsey and Tom Wright’s modern and chilling adaption features a group of modern students who explore the mysterious story of several schoolgirls who went missing at Hanging Rock on St Valentine’s Day in 1900.

Tickets to the two performances are on sale now via TryBooking:

    First Aid

This week our VET Building and Construction, Animal Care, Electrotechnology and Sport and Recreation students completed their First Aid qualification. This is a unit of competency for their VET qualification, but also provides them with vital life skills to be active members of their communities. Saville Training have provided a high quality service for our students to be First Aid attendees should they ever need to be.

    AFL Umpire School Academy

Padua College VCE VET Sport & Recreation students are currently undertaking a six-week AFL Umpire School Academy program as part of their curriculum. The program enables students to build their football knowledge, gain confidence, problem-solving and leadership skills, while improving opportunities for employment and connections to clubs in the community. Upon completion, students gain a Level 1 AFL Umpiring Accreditation and can use their qualification to umpire junior games within the local football league.
